Forum,
This question must have been asked before: Does a MapInfo version exist for Apple MAC? Which one should I go for?

Around the time of MapInfo 3 or so, a Mac version existed.

The last Mac version was 4.0 I think. We had a copy at Bartholomews and it seemed to work just fine.

Subject: [MI-L] FW: MapInfo, MAC version??

I may have been the only tow-truck driver in my shop to have used the Mac
version. Tim is correct; v. 4.0 was the end of the line. It workS just
fine. I still have it on a field laptop and can do a lot with it in the
business of preparing raw geologic field work into tab files. But to be a
meaningful player in the GIS world, I had to move on for the serious end of
the work.

As you might imagine, v. 4.0 capabilities have fallen behind greatly once
the Mac version became frozen in, and you'd really be disappointed if you
expected much in the way of tools and logic tests. Universal Translator
never came into the Mac version. Functions as utilitarian as "check
regions" or "snap/thin" were never available. Transparency for the
background of polygon fills--jeesh, how do you see the topographic map base
if all the fills are solid? No vertical mapper. These are some of the
fundamental changes that come to mind quickly.

So it goes.

I'm running MapInfo 8.5 on an Intel Mac under Parallels Desktop and it
works quite well.

Thanks for the clarifications, gents! I understand it should be safe to
run MI v 8.5 (WIN) or newer on a dual processor MAC, and that no
specific MAC versions exist beyond v 4.0.
Fair enough!

I am running v6.5 directly under SimplyMEPIS v7.0 with WINE.
Some minor issues but it works
Also any of the VM's [VMware, VirtualBox,....] with Win2k Pro work fine.
