Dear All,
I am using ODBC to connect to a MS Access database. I am a complete novice in using external databases in MapInfo in this way so apologies for possibly very basic questions but any advice gratefully received!
When I attempt to open the live table I get the following error:
The size of the database is approximately 35MB and the table I am attempting to open has approximately 80,000 records. Therefore I don’t think the query size can be larger than 2GB – can it?! I also have plenty of temporary storage space so not sure why I am getting this error.
If I link to the table then it opens up without a problem. What are the advantages or disadvantages of only linking to a table?
Finally, ultimately this database will be placed on a centralised location with multiple users accessing and editing the table. If the table is only linked what issues may arise?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Best wishes,
Louise

Hi Louise,
The error seems to indicate you are trying to open a query. If that is right then when the error appears - have a look in you user temp folder and see if there is a file there that is 2GB.
I have come across this issue in the past and it seems to me that the Jet engine used by ODBC does a full table join first of all and then filters from this joined query. So even if the result is just a few rows it still does the full table join. A quick scan of the temp folder will reveal if that is the case.
You might be able to get around it by linking to the tables that make up the query and then using the SQL in MI to filter out the rows.
