Greetings,

I just ungraded MapInfo to V 11 and have run into a problem that I did
not have before.

When I attempt to bring in a .grd file from a Geosoft package (an
airborne magnetometer survey) I get an error message that states:

"Raster engine was unable to recognize image file format."

How do I rectify this situation? It must be a real simple fix.

Regards,

I assume that you also have Encom Discover or Encom Engage.
You need to copy the raster and grid handlers from your previous MapInfo Pro installation folder to the folder where you installed Mi Pro v11.

The files you need to copy normally start with Encom and end with .gh* and .rh*

Peter's response is correct John, assuming you have installed MI Pro
11 inot a new spearate folder, the Encom grid handlers are still in
the older MI Pro directory, and are therefore not being used in MI Pro
11.

Many thanks to Peter and Alex for the solution to my raster image
dilemma. Sometimes it is the simple things that are difficult to fathom.

That is what makes this list so valuable to everyone.

Hi,

I got this same error but while trying to open a .tif file in MI Pro 11.5. I got the file from a collegue and I've understood it was made using GDAL. With the .tif-file I also got .tfw-files (ESRI?). The file has a depth model in a raster format in it.

Help would be great, but please notice I'm not a data expert and don't speak computer language ;)

Regards,
Riikka M.

Hi Riikka

Tiff is not just Tiff - that's probably the cause of your problem here.

There is a number of different tiff "formats", depending on the compression and the bit type.
And then there is TIFF Grids, which aren't just a raster file.

I have come across a number of tiff formats, especially 32 bit, that Mi Pro don't support.
And TIFF Grid aren't supported either
