Hey all,

I have a large number of .ecw raster files that I would like to
register for use in MI (too many to do manually). They have been
supplied with .ers files which are apparently Earth Resource Satellite
image headers.

So far, I have not found a method of converting the .ers headers
into .tabs. Before I start writing a custom script to strip the data
out of the header files, has anyone else looked at this?

Assuming these images are registered .ecw or .ers ER Mapper files, then
you do not need to re-register them in MapInfo. Download and install the
free Mapimagery for MapInfo plugin and then just use the Open dialogue
and open the image, ers or alg file as you wish. Mapimagery will take
care of creating the tab file for you. It will probably ask you along
the way to confirm the projection.

I was investigating that today. The tab file that had been supplied seemed
to have been created with Map Imagery (at least that was what it said in the
metadata), but the image was displaced. The projection was correct though.

I ended up fiddling with the coordinates and number of lines in the ers file
to define the pixel and map coordinates, and it all worked OK.

Perhaps someone got something wrong in the original conversion. Maybe it
would have saved some time to download Map Imagery myself. If it doesn't
work though, I can give you the logic to convert the data in the ers to a
tab file...
