Hi all,

I am looking for a tool that will allow the import of MapSource
(Garmin) files, such as GDB or GPX directly into Map Info. I have
searched the web high and low, but there is not much out there.

I know of Garfile, but this adds an extra step to my process.

I have also seen MB codes, but I am not familiar with this.

If anybody knows of such a tool, I would be much obliged to hear about
it.

Cheers,

Mick

Mick:

The current version of Discover allows you to import .gpx files via the Data
Import tool directly from MapInfo. It's been quite a nice utility for us.

Also the GPS Utility tool will read .gpx files and write out MapInfo
compatible files.

Best regards,
Barbara

Mick,

You should be able to open the GPX file in Excel and then do some editing to remove any unwanted lines above the column headers. Once you've saved as an Excel file it's easy to open in MapInfo.

There are standalone apps, like GPSUtility http://www.gpsu.co.uk/ that will convert the GPX to a text file format, which you can then open in MapInfo.

There's also a MapBasic utility to create points/trackpoints, which you can download here - http://www.wap3.com/download/gpx2tab.zip, though I haven't tried it.

Hi Mick,

Did you try GPSBabel. It pretty much converts most GPS formats out there to a more useable format.
