Hello All

We have recently migrated to Windows 7 and MapInfo 12.

After having no initial problems one of our users now has an error message on trying to open MapInfo - “Error - licence (error no: 880057)” and is unable to open MapInfo. I had the same thing myself  a couple of weeks ago, I was running Mapinfo 9.5 as well as 12  and it affected both versions (9.5 licenced from the licence server in New York and 12 licenced from a local licence server). We never got to the bottom of this one as my PC had to be rebuilt due to other problems and the issue has not (so far! ) recurred for me.

Is anyone able to shed any light? I suspect either windows updates or changes to user permissions although if it is the latter I would expect to see more problems as our permissions tend to apply to groups.

Kind Regards

Sue

Hi Sue

As you have a concurrent licence the local Licence Server Utility controls your licence.
Are you running the latest version of the LSU?
Methinks that could be your problem.

Hello John

As far as I know we are ( but I’ll check). So far this problem has only occurred for one user and for me (although not since my rebuild) and also for me it was affecting MapInfo 9.5 which is licenced from the Mapinfo server in New York. We have 60+ users who have been migrated (some since before Christmas) and are not currently having any problems.

Kind Regards

Sue

Sue,

Could this user have different proxy settings or have a firewall/virus checker getting in the way?

Regards

Hi Sue

Well v9.5 isn't supported on Windows 7 (minimum v10.0.2).
The node-locked licensing is a one-off registration process (connecting to a server in the States).
However, the concurrent licences have to have a live connection to your LSU.
If that connection drops out then that MapInfo instance will stop....

Hi Sue

I have come across this error a few times before.
In these cases the cause was not enough user rights for starting the FlexNet License service.

In these cases the problem was solved simply be starting MapInfo Professional once by rightclicking on the shortcut and choosing Run as Administrator....

The problem can be connected having installed MapInfo Professional with sufficient administrator rights. We always recommend that MapInfo Pro is installed by rightclicking the Setup.exe and choosing Run as Administration....
