Hi Everyone

I was wondering if anyone can help with an issue I have with a TAB delimited with Russian Cyrillic characters

I can’t see to find the right code page to bring it into MapInfo.

I have attached a sample

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do?

Many thanks

Hi Martin,

The trick Eric Blasenheim taught me years ago was to use AppLoc (a free Microsoft download)  to fool MapInfo Pro that it was running on a Russian Windows machine. Even an English version of Pro can then load and show Russian, but you will not be able to mix it with characters from other code pages. A MapInfo Pro supporting Unicode... one day, I hope.

Hi Martin,

With the register table command it is possible to do this:
Register table "sometable.shp" type SHAPEFILE Charset "UTF-8"

I tried to convert from UTF-16 to UTF-8 (using notepad), but running this command didn't work:
register table "R6AM12402ER6000IAA17.txt" Type ASCII Delimiter 9 CharSet "UTF-8"

UTF-8 as a parameter wasn't accepted. Maybe it is a SHP/DBF-feature only.

You may have to bring the UTF-8 into a DBF file, which can be imported.

Or store it as an ANSI-encoded MID file with a proper MIF header stating "WindowsCyrillic".

Regards
Uffe
