Hi,
We have several dwg files. One layer per file.
The layer contains lines, polylines, text, points.
I need to export to MI and calculate ObjectLen for all lines and polylines.
I don't care the atributtes !

Is it neccesary firt explode the dwg file ?
Exploding or not the result must be the same ?

Thank you !!

Hi Sagent,

No need to explode any thing, just export has it is and you could calculate what ever you want in MI later.. i do that most often..

MapInfo also has a Universal Translator that allows DWG / DXF files to
be converted to MapInfo TAB - under the Tools menu at the bottom. This
is using version 9.0.

I would like to "piggy back" on this discussion, if I may!

I "inherited" a bunch of DWG data.

I have used Universal Translator to bring the data into MapInfo, but I
can't find the projection for these files. The creator of the data is
no longer with the company, so I can't ask.

How can I find the projection of the DWG data? (Assumming it is geo-
based.)

Thanks

A DWG will likely not have a projection. If a coordinate system is
used in a CAD drawing (espically older ones) it is often arbitrary.
If you are fortunate to have inherited any m,eta data with your dwg's,
take a peek there to see if that will give you any clues.

This is assuming of course your inherited CAD data is old (R14
yeah?!), as if often tends to be for me at least...

Simple answer for your ? is ...
If the dwg fie was created using any geo-referenced reference (Images, scans etc etc) Definately those info will be in place in any dwg, you can't determine which projection system was used , coz autocad is least bothered about these info at any point of time, it only make a feature displacement in its appropriate position as per the user input. hope this makes some sense.

Thanks
