Dear all
I got the following message when I was trying to import dxf files into
MapInfo
"DXF Error: Unknown DXF item code: line 847"

What is the problem? Any suggestions on how to import DXF files into
MapInfo?
Thanks
Vania

My experience is that it depends on the version of the DXF standard being used.
I've always had best results using DXF v12.

Either - export from Microstation as DXF version 12
Or - Use AutoDesk's dwgconverter tool to downgrade your DXF file to an older version

Hi Vania!

What version of MapInfo are you using? And what method do you use for the import?
You can choose between Import or use the Universal translator.
I would recommend the latter.
Other than that, DXF from uStation should be well behaved and pose no special problem.
You could try DWG if that is an option.

Have you looked at line 847 of the offending DXF file?

Hello list
Many thanks for all the suggestions.
Mats: The Universal translator worked just fine! I was trying with
Table->Import before.
Cheers!

FWIW, I was getting the same error code/message on a project week before last.  Like Martin suggests, I found by choosing an older Autocad version for importing, the data came in nicely.

Can AC 2007 save a DWG back to say 2000?  If so, you might try this...

From Autocad, open that DXF you saved as the older R12, save it again as a DWG drawing but if possible, save it as an Autocad v2000 (AC1015), then try to import/translate that DWG.

PS: If you're using Universal Translator, check the UT Log file for that translation, it may tell you more about the error code.
