Using the trial version of Mapinfo Professional 9.5

I was just talking with a co-worker about downloading a trial version of MapInfo Professional 9.5 for evaluation.  She is concerned about downloading it and using it.  She had heard; if she opened a workspace that 9.5 would modify it and it could no longer be used in 8.0 (the current version everyone else of the floor is using).  Is this an over simplification of what could happen? 

 

Am I correct in believing, as long as I don’t change the workspace, the workspace will still work in 8.0?  Or as long as I don’t use a feature that is  unknown to 8.0 & save the workspace; I can still use it in 8.0?  I may have to change the version number in the header of the workspace; but it will still open?

Why not just make a copy of the workspace and all the tables it uses, and test ver 9.5 on that ??
