I´ve found a layer containing objects, which I´d like to change color and size on, so it fits my work. But...I found out that the layer was locked, so I can´t explicitly do it editable just like the other layers I have...   Is there a way to unlock the layer..?

Thanks in advance

Jan,

Open the *.TAB file in a text editor, such as Wordpad.

After the projection details and field definitions you will probably find a line called “ReadOnly”.

Simply delete it, and re-save.

You should then have access to do edits.

Regards,

Bill

Start by figuring out why the layer is read-only

- is is stored in a place where you don't have write access?
- is it stored in a format that MapInfo Pro can't write to?
- is the table opened in read-only mode thru a workspace
- ...

Start looking at the files belonging to the table in Windows Explorer. What types are these?
If there's a shp file, that might explain your problem.
It might be necessary to save a copy of your file to make it editable

Following on from below

If you have “found” it, I suspect that it doesn’t “belong” to you and that you have no editing rights to the table. If you have eliminated Peter’s and Bill’s suggestions below then your solution may be to take a copy (using File>Save copy as) and work on that. This would sever the connection to the original table so that you wouldn’t see any updates to it though.

Kind Regards

Sue
