Hi ,

I've some geodata as shown below :

I then created Mapinfo Tab as shown below :

My question is , is there a way by which this Mapinfo Table gets automatically upated if I update the excel I've shown above . In other words , I want to make a mechanism by which if I update my excel sheet , the updated data appears automatically in mapinfo tab .

Could you not just make a tool that reimports / overwrites the tab file from excel files and creates new points / styles and labels when run?

If this is something you do regularly you could even add this script to your startup workspace.

That could be a way , but not the answer for what I've questioned .

By updating excel I mean Updating "Status" Column of the data . I don't want to add more points to the existing database , If I want to do so , I'd obviously again "Create Points" .

What I want is , lets say there are 50 elements in Mapinfo Table with lets say a column "Remarks" . I want to link this MI Table to an Excel , so that whenever I update That excel , MI table automatically gets updated. .

What I currently do is :

Update column value by Info tool in Mapinfo as shown below :

But I want to get it updated automatically if I update value for that element in Excel :

I hope you got my point.....!!!!

Hi,

You can not have the same excel file open in both MS Excel and MapInfo at the same time.

If you can live with that, it is no problem. Just make your edits in Excel, save and close file. Then open it in MapInfo.

Hi Uffe ,

Thanks a lot for your reply , Usually I do the update as suggested by you , should I take it as there is no other way to do that (Automatic Updation)

Hi,

I think you can do it through a DBMS datasource (ODBC), but that gets much more complicated to setup.
And the datasource can probably not be excel.

Hi,

the open source MiTab-Library (http://mitab.maptools.org/) has an interface to VB/VBA inkl. some sample code.
With it you can create and manipulate TAB-Files from VBA in Excel without having MiPro at all.
It works quite well from my experience.
You would have to code this little column update on your own, but that should'nt be more than some twenty lines of code.

Cheers
Stefan
