I too needed a KML2MIF converted, not finding such converter quickly, and
since the KML file is merely a text file of XML conent, I use a text editor
and macros to convert the KML to MIF, build a MID file and import into
Mapinfo. Not as pretty and slick as a dedicated program, but I only need to
do this occaisionally.

If you don't find anything that fits your budget, the above is wallet
friendly :))

File > Open Universal Data
Then File > Save Copy As.. to make into TAB format.
(Assumes you have a recent version of MapInfo Pro).

I know I might be repeating myself here, but 10.5 has a built in KML reader.
You can find it under File > Open Universal Data ...

OGR2OGR also seems to support KML.

Hi guys,

there's also this fantastic tool from GEOBIDE: http://www.geobide.es/productos/geoconverter.aspx

It makes lots of transformations and also let you transform differents files into only one (also useful for other extensions). I use it monthly and the results are great.

It has also a free pay version.

Maybe it can be a problem for some of you cause it is in spanish.

Hope it helps.

Outside of Mapinfo

You could use ogr in Gdal http://www.gdal.org/ogr/

You might also be able to do this via QGIS, http://www.qgis.org/, or GRASS,  http://grass.fbk.eu/.

Commercially FME would be a good alternative, in addition to Global Mapper.

If you export to shapefile first, though, you would have more options on the open source front including GVSig.

Cheers

Hi List,

I have been trying to convert some KML files into TAB files using Open Universal Data option. My file contains 2 region objects with some attributes.
But I have been encountering an error and it says :

"Warning: No end quote on string constant. Expression too complex"

Does any one have faced this issue.

Regards,
Sita Gurung
