calculating slope percent

I'm trying to calculate slope as a percent using the USGS 30m DEM, but the values are all way too high: 4459953 or 1845310.  I've never calculated slope before so I have no idea what 'valid' results look like, but I'm expecting results to be in percentages, which these are not.

I have calculated the min/max/mean elevation to polygons using the same raster and the values look good. So the raster data is fine. 

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

I figured it out. The data is in NAD83 and elevation is in meters. I reprojected and it looks good.
