Does anyone know of a plug-in/shareware/add-on or otehr software that
can make my life a little easier?
Does anyone have some tips for making this sort of procedure a little
more automated in MI?
cheers
craig
Have you ever looked at Encom's Discover software? One of its features
is a scaled output "wizard". It has numerous other features for day-to-
day use too, so might be wroth a look. Let me know if you want more
information, or you can download an evaluation from their webiste,
www.encom.com.au.

Caroline
There are a number of add-ons produced by UK-based MapInfo partners that
will help in the production of layouts, though they aren't
free/shareware! Here's a couple of examples -
EasyPlot -
http://www.aligned-assets.co.uk/products/desktopgis/easyplot/index.html
ProPrinter - http://www.mapsbydesign.co.uk/productsview.html or
Plots4MI - http://www.mapsbydesign.co.uk/productsmapbasic.html
I sometimes use this tool to put a graticule in the map window, which
you can also label -
http://www.directionsmag.com/files/index.php/view/135
It's 'dynamic' and will change as the scale of the map window changes,
including the grid coordinates. We also use this tool to put a
scale-bar in the layout window -
http://www.paris-pc-gis.com/ppcc/morelayscale.htm
If you have a particular layout format that you use repeatedly then you
could set this up in a workspace as layout template. So, when you need
to create a layout you can just open the template and the layout is
created, along with any items you've added, like a logo or static text
(copyright statements etc), rather than having to create it from
scratch.

So you haven't seen our MI PLOT ?- it has been doing lovely scaled plots in
MapInfo for years.....
Info sheet attached.
Not sure how much longevity it has as a product at the moment (as with the
other plotting apps)
wot with the new features MI Pro v9 - have you got yours yet?
On another issue.....
Where did you get your HS Gridder from?
And is it any good?

Actually I haven't, which is probably why I didn't mention it, though
I'm sure it's an equal to the ones I did mention! You can show me a
demo at the next MUGUKI day. We don't actually use any of the layout
tools I referred to, as we tend to produce fairly basic maps with the
minimum of marginalia.
Still waiting for MI v9...
As for the HS_Gridder tool, we purchased this after one of my colleagues
met Tim Mashford, the author, at a Crime Mapping conference awhile back
and we've dealt with Tim direct. We've been using if for over a year
now and are more than happy with it.
