Overlapping Line Intersection Tool?

Has anyone seen a tool or add on, that will take a tab file and anywhere lines overlap (or cross) without an intersection.  Automatically add in the necessary intersections in order to make it topologically correct?  I assume this would be a tool used to clean up sloppy data provided by an outside source.

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob

Interesting request for "automatic" correction - how would the computer know the correct action to take?
Which object is incorrect, or are both objects at fault??

MapInfo already has the Fix and Clean tools on the Spatial ribbon.
>Check Regions will identify self-intersections, overlaps and gaps.
>Clean Objects will remove self-intersections, remove overlaps and/or gaps.
>Snap/Thin will also clean data with node snapping and thinning.
>Fit Objects will fit objects to neighbouring objects.

Any good?

Hi Rob,

If you still have a copy of a 32 bit version then there was a tool called polybuilder. I don’t think it has made it into the 64 bit versions.

That tool should do what you require – I think!

Hi Rob – you can do this with the current version of MapInfo

First make sure that MapCAD is enabled.

If everything is in one table

Then make the table you are wanting to update editable.

Next select all the objects in that table and go to Spatial>Set Target

Then select all the objects again (can also be in a different table) and go to Spatial>Nodes>Overlay Nodes onto Target. (there should be help on doing this).

That way the table you want to modify will now have nodes at the intersection of the lines.

Then check to make sure it worked

That should do it for you.

Best Regards,

Barbara Carroll, CPG
