print legend separately

I've searched and couldn't find a similar question. Basically I have a map and legend in Layout Designer. But sometimes I want to save the map as one jpg and the legend as a separate jpg. I can do it except that I can't have the image print the exact size of the legend. Instead I have to play with different paper sizes to get the closest and there's usually a lot of extra room. It's also frustrating because creating a custom paper size for the legend doesn't save in the workspace. So if I go back to it later, I have to re-set the paper size. 

It's been a few years, but I thought in the older versions of MapInfo I could select to just save the legend and it would automatically just save the legend window/size. 

Is this something simple that I'm just being stupid about?
