Hi,
I'm wondering if it is possible to have districts based on the road network or linear polygons using the MapInfo redistricting function and how this can be achieved.

I was tasked to build these districts for planning purposes for city street cleaning operations. In the past I have done this task manually, but I would like to know if it can be done using the trimming tool.

Hi

I’m pretty sure you can use lines as districts just like you can use points and regions.

But this problem may be a good fit for RouteFinder.

I’ll let Uffe or Martin respond to this part

Cheers

Peter

Hi,

RouteFinder has a couple of methods to create districts, based upon point input, which in your case can be in the center of each network link, you want to clean.

You can find it here:

Hi Peter and Uffe,
Sorry for my late return, I took two weeks off...
Thank you for the details on the possibility of redistricting with the MapInfo Redistricting tool using a road network database.
I'm going to test with MapInfo Redistricting to see if it works with linear (polyline) datasets. Unfortunately, I cannot find any tutorials for the specific case of using the tool with polylines or linear polygons.
As for the suggested RouteFinder product, it seems more complete to me. Unfortunately, I don't know this tool. Uffe seems to specify the possibility of creating points on linear geometries and creating districts. So, I have to explore the tool and see to what extent it meets the need.

Thank you!
