Hi there

I would like to access spatial data of an existing PostGIS database (PostgreSQL 9.4 / PostGIS 2.1.4) in MapInfo Pro15.0.
After making a table mappable I get the attribute table but I am missing the geometry.

When I want to open a table I made mappable (set to "download data") I get the following error message: "The map objects in the table you have downloaded cannot be edited. See the MapInfo User's Guide for more information."
When I want to open the table (set to "Live Access") I get no geometry.

I uploaded a TAB-file in the database in order to get information about the entries in the mapinfo_mapcatalog table (see upper entry)
The lower entry is from the database.

Does anyone know how to access the geometry?
Thanks in advance.

Best Nico

Hi there

I just wanted to post the answer to this problem.
The data in the PostGIS database has 3d-geometry (x,y,z coordinates).
MapInfo is not able to read 3d-geometry.

That's it.

Typically, MapInfo Pro would just read the 2D part of the features and ignore the Z-values on the nodes.

Have you tried making the layer mappable by first adding the MapCatalog to the database via EasyLoader and then using MapInfo Pro to add a spatial registration of the table to the MapCatalog?

Hi Peter

That is what I did. I first created the mapinfo.mapcatalog file using EasyLoader. After that I used "make table mappable" to get the geometries. However that did not work.
Do you see another possibility to get the geometries?

What error did you get when you tried to “Make Table Mappable”?

There might be a number of reasons why it fails and the error might give me a clue what is wrong.

There is no error when making a table mappable. The entry in the mapinfo_map.mapcatalog works for every dataset I made mappable. However the geometry is still not visible.
After that I was in contact with the PitneyBowes Support for quiet a long time and I sent them an export file. They then told me, that most of the geometry cells were defined as 3-dimensional and that MapInfo Pro would not support 3d geometries. For me that was answer enough to stop trying to access the geometries of PostGIS database using MapInfo Pro.

Only as you said, that MapInfo would just ignore the z-values on the nodes I was wondering again...
