I'm currently evaluating MapInfo v17, and am having trouble working out how to generate a grc file. (I prefer a MapInfo solution, but any ideas about other tools could also be helpful.)

I want to generate a GRC file with the following:
•    A single raster band with data from a GeoTIFF file. The existing raster band has a data type of Byte.
•    A list of classifications corresponding to the values used in the raster data
•    A list of colours (one per value used in the raster data)

I've tried Map-> Content-> Legend, as per the help topic “About Creating Raster Legends”. But MapInfo gives the error "no layers in the map can contribute to the legend".

Any guidance on this would be much appreciated!

Cheers
Ronny

I believe you have contacted Ruchi.

For the record, in MapInfo Pro Advanced v17 you cannot directly run a classification operation on a raster that is field type "Image". There is no good reason for this and we might lift the restriction in the future. Unfortunately, lots of TIFF files look like images when they are not, but it is hard to know. We may add an override feature in future so you can tell Advanced how you want it loaded.

To convert an Image raster to a Continuous raster you need to run the Calculator operation. You just need to do a copy, but the calculator allows you to override the output field type and set it to Continuous. Then, you can use that raster as input to the classification operation. This will create either an MRR or a Vertical Mapper GRC raster.
