Hi all,

I've been using MapInfo 11.5 for a few weeks now.

I've been having issues when generating complex PDFs with raster backgrounds and transparencies. MapInfo 11.5 will not create the PDF whereas MapInfo 11.0 will. With MapInfo 11.5 I get the error message "Not enough memory to complete this operation".

Also, when saving a large JPG from a Mapper Window (for example a mapper window with a detailed raster image saved at 750 dpi), MapInfo 11.0 will save it, however MapInfo 11.5 gives the error message "Unable to save window contents. Check for sufficient memory" followed by the error message "Raster engine was unable to recognise image file format.".

This only happens when pushing MapInfo to the limit of its abilities, however it seems that MapInfo 11.0 could be pushed a little further.

Any else experienced similar issues?

To ask the dead set obvious question ( / smile / ), how much memory
(ram) is in your computer?

Hi,

I have a high spec machine with 4 GB RAM, which is as much as Window XP can usefully handle.

The point is, that MapInfo 11.0 can handle the identical processes, where as MapInfo 11.5 runs into memory issues.

It is as if MapInfo 11.5 is more memory hungry or less efficient than MapInfo 11.0

Did you try rebooting the computer to free up the memory?

Windows XP can only use about 3.3GB.
Use Task Manger to kill off background processes and services that you
don't need for the moment.
Close all MapInfo Tool Manager utilities that are loaded.

That will free up some memory. The only other option is to keep an
older version of MIPro installed (if possible).
Then in October you can pick up the Windows 8 64-bit upgrade for
$US40. Can use all your 4GB of RAM.
