Hi all

yes we have installed MI 10 and i have found it a bit slower than 9.5

Its funny but not!! I have wanted to remove the layer control and
bring it back to the old style of a floating layer control.

I have now got this but i do not know what i did to get this.
So the layer control is like the old style now but how did i get this.

My other tool bars are fine and they are fixed as i want them.
just curious about this floating layer control.
Ta in advance

Sunnie,

You can drag the layer control of the side of the MapInfo Professional window and so making it floating.
Or you can move it to one of the sides of the window and dock it.

You can also push the small pin at the top of the docked layer control and in this way make the layer control auto hide.

Does this answer your question?

Just installed MIPro 10 as an evaluation and the layer control dialog
seems to be missing :

Automatic Map Drawing button
layer control option button

It will also not dock with any of the sides and therefore I can not
access the auto hide feature.

Am I missing something?

The buttons you mention are in the lower right side of the layer control.

The layer control should dock when you drag it on to one of the sides.
It should be able to dock even if you do not have any windows open.

But they are not there! And it will not dock!

Peter, I can report the same.

When I first installed v.10 the layer control behaved just as you
described. But now after a few days use it has changed to an ordinary
window. It will not dock and there is no 'pin' - the only control now
is the the big X to close the layers window.

I have uploaded a screen shot "Layer Control.jpg" to the Files area

Hi Sally

MapInfo Pro v10 has actually two versions of the layer control.
A floating layer control and a dialog version of the new layer control.

The dialog version behaves like the old layer control.
You can not work in the map while this dialog version is shown.
Now if you for some reason is using the menu file (MapInfow.mnu) from an old version of MapInfo Pro, like 9.5 (which really looks old now), you will get the dialog version of the layer control.
So I'm guessing that is what is happening to you.

Are you using the WorkGroup feature?
If so it might be using a central version of the menu file, that actually is a v9.5 menu file.

Peter,
Yes you are right.
We are using a cut-down version of the menu file to simplify things
for users who only need a subset of the functions, and it was copied
from v9.5. Comparing it with the v10.0 file I see that they call
different routines. I have now edited the routine number to the new
one.
As for the other posters, it will be interesting to see if they have
the same explanation.
Many thanks for your help.

I am still fighting with my other v.10 problem though - a delay of
about 11 seconds to every Hotlink response. It is extremely annoying.

Sally

you can alter (but first make a back up copy) the MAPINFOW.mnu file found in C:\Program Files\MapInfo\Professional

see below

use find MapperShortcut to go to this section

Create Menu "MapperShortcut" ID 17 As

      "&Editing tools" As "Editing tools",

    "(-",

"&Dock Layer Control..."                                    calling 822,                  'Docking Layer Control

"&Float Layer Control..."                                   calling 801,                  'Floating layer control

      "&Print..."                                                 CALLING 112,

      "S&QL Select..."                                            calling 302,

"&Append Rows to Table..."                                  calling 411,

See easy
