Is there a short-cut on how to quickly move a layer from the bottom to the top, other then selecting it and using the arrow up button?

Rosario

None that I know of.
But another option - if this is a regular requirement for a specific
layer - is to add the layer in again.
Have one at the top and one at the bottom. Then you just need to
'toggle' the visibility of the top layer on/off as required.

Can you no longer "click and drag" layers in the layer control like on older versions of MI?

If it were something you did very often, you could build a mapbasic app, but surely to goodness they (MI) hasn't taken away "click-n-drag".

The click and drag feature still works, but my work space has more than 40 layers, and at times when i add a new layer, it puts it on the bottom, and i need to move it up near the top. The drag feature is just slow, i have a need for speed. :)

For those of us who can't always move the mouse with precision, or if you want to line up something with a high degree of accuracy, you can select what you want and then holding down the shift and control keys, use the arrow keys to drag the selection exactly where you  want it. Zoom in to make the jumps smaller or zoom out to make them larger.

Is it slow because MapInfo wants to re-draw the window with each
single shift of the layer?
You can turn off the re-draw, shift the layer, then turn on the
re-draw again.

I was just faced with the same problem and came up with this bit of lateral thinking. Don't move the layer itself, but move everything else around it:

1. Highlight the top layer in the layer control list
2. Scroll to the layer above the one that needs to be promoted to the top
3. Hold shift and click on this layer to select all the layers above the one to be promoted
4. Left click and drag the selection below the layer to be promoted

Your layer should now be at the top, and redraws should be minimised with the new Layer Control as there is only one 'move'.

Works with both old and new style Layer controls (MI 8.5 and 11.5)

Andy,

Thanks for the idea, it does the job. It would be nice if program would allow you to promote layer to top by with a right-click option.
