Hi Group,

I need your help, even though my question is not directly related to
MI Pro...

A few years ago I have published some Tips & Tricks on using Notepad++
to write MapBasic programs.

One of the tricks - to pass keywords from Notepad++ to the
MapBasic.chm - involved the use of an external tool KeyHH.exe. This
KeyHH.exe does not do that much, but what it does it does do it very
good...

Unfortunately the publisher of KeyHH.exe has removed the tool from the
Net... and the URL of the website is now used by someone else.

(Of course I still have a copy of the tool, but I am a little hesitant
to distribute/publish it as it is not mine... I have been googling to
find an alternative but I did not yet find anything)

Question: does anyone of you have (or know of) a similar toolie that
can be used to pass keywords to a chm?

P.S. a description of what I am looking for can be found here:
http://www.twiav.nl/php/mapbasic.php#sehe

Many thanks in advance,

Egge-Jan

that example is now outdated because of changes in windows 7 on where
it keeps program data.
what are you try to do ?

Hi Glen,

I try to stay away from Windows 7 as long as possible :-):-):-)

But now the serious answer:

From Notepad++ I want to use the currently selected keyword to open
the MapBasic Help file (MapBasic.chm) with the keyword shown in the
Index - in this way you only have to hit enter to open the relevant
page in the MapBasic Help, and that was what KeyHH.exe did... (I
suppose the main reason that KeyHH.exe has been removed from the net
was because it is not compatible with Windows 7).

Does anyone know of a way to accomplish this - both in Windows 7 and
in Windows XP.

Thanks,

Egge-Jan

Hi Egge-Jan!
I'd suggest you try and check with Mr Ralph Walden if it's ok to re-distribute the tool.
Else, software which is no longer supported, sold, or where the original copyright owner does not claim his copyright can be seen as abandonware, i e for all practical purposes (but not legally so) in the public realm and as such, re-distributable by anyone.

Regards, Mats.E

Hello Egge- Jan

First of all, thanks for your work in adapting MapBasic til Notepad++
it's been at great help.

For a few weeks ago I ran into the same problem. And it's quite
annoing to end up at keyworks homepage and then it has nothing to do
with keyhh.exe.

But there are archives for old homepages ex. http://wayback.archive.org
where you can find the old keyworks.net homepage.

I found a copy of the file under marts 15, 2006.

Hi,

@Mats: I like that word, 'abandonware'. Something like 'space
debris' :-)

I would be more than happy to put the tool on my website if Mr Ralph
Walden would allow me too, but I don't feel like hosting it without
permission.

@Carsten: Cool! This archiving service really makes it possible to ga
back into time :-)

But again: the trick we are talking about is not that difficult,
passing a keyword from an editor to a chm file - there should be other
ways to accomplish this, now that KeyHH.exe has disappeared into outer
space...

Cheers,

Egge-Jan

The original site was accidentally allowed to expire. Ralph has permitted us to host it here http://keyworks.helpmvp.com/
