Hi

Can anyone help please?

I have a client who wants to use data from Ethiopia in UTM, rather
than Lat-Long. This would be based on the Adindan datum, but this is
only available in Lat/Long in MapInfo. Does anyone have details of the
Adindan UTM coordinate system for that part of the world, for him to
use in MapInfo? (I gather it would be Zone 37 & 38N).

Thanks in advance

Hi Caroline,

I'm not a "projection specialist", but here is some information I gleaned
from a geodesy publication I have. I hope it helps.

The Ethiopia Adindan datum references the Clarke 1880 spheroid.

Details on the datum origins are:

Origin point = Station Z5 Adindan, with coordinates N 22 10 07.110, E 31 29
21.608

Datum shift parameters from WGS84 to local:

Adindan Dx = 162 Dy = 12 Dz = -206
Adindan Ethiopia Dx = 165 Dy = 11 Dz = -206

Spheroid constants:

Clarke 1880 Semi major axis (a) = 6378249.145
Inverse flattening (1/f) = 293.465
Units = F

Regards,

Bill

Thanks Bill, I'm not an expert either so I'll have to look up what to
do with all that info, but it may well help.

I had gathered from info in another forum (yes, there is another
forum! ;-) ) that we could simply use the WGS 84 Zone 37N projection
info in the prj file, but replace the 104 (for WGS 84) for 1 (for
Clark 1880). Does anyone know if that's true?

Thanks
Caroline
