Greetings All,

With all the recent discussion of linking an Access table in Mapinfo, I'm
curious about the concept of using ODBC link.

I've been managing my Access, customer database in Mapinfo for years,
opening it directly in Mapinfo. The only downside I experience is that I
can't open the Access db if I have one of its tables open in MI without
fouling the index of the table opened in MI. Does ODBC eliminate this? (ie
If using an ODBC link can I open the db even if a table is opened in MI?

Thanks,
David Reid

The key reason we use the ODBC method at the moment is so that we can
provide access to the data for many users who are (a) remote to the
database (in the field, they operate on linked tables) and (b) not
'allowed' to edit the base data directly.

Depending on your needs it can be the 'perfect' solution, but there
are definitely many procedural issues to deal with along the way.

Is there any way to limit - through the MI DBMS connection - the list
of available queries derived from an Access DB?

We'd love to somehow in our Access DB, change the viewable status of
queries so that they do not appear using the MI DBMS connection as
there are many queries which are not applicable to our users!

Cheers,

Andre.
