I have the following problem……

I am trying to add a WFS connection in MapInfo but get the following
error message (see files section - image 2701_01.jpg)

Although the same address works in Internet Explorer as shown here
(see files section - image 2701_02.jpg)

I can successfully connect to other WFS services using MapInfo
Professional.

I can also connect to the same WFS service in ArcGIS but not MapInfo.

I'm using MI Pro 9.5. release build 70.

Please can anyone tell me what the problem is.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris,

What URL do you write ?
Remember that MapInfo add REQUEST=GETCAPABILITIES on it's own.
So you should not write that part of the URL in the address field in MapInfo

Hi Peter,

I tried this without the REQUEST=GETCAPABILITIES at the end but still
get the same error message.

"Unable to retrieve capabilities from the WFS Server"

My URL looks like this

http://......./arcgis/services/test_wms_wfs/MapServer/WFSServer?

Hope you can help.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

In WMS/WFS, the key names are case insensitive, but their values are not (unfortunately). Try REQUEST=GetCapabilities instead.

Hi Lars,

I tried to use REQUEST=GetCapabilities but I get the same error
message....

"Unable to retrieve capabilities from the WFS Server"

Are there any other ideas I can try?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Google is your friend :-)

I Google'd "arcgis server wfs parameters" and ended up on this informative page - http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisserver/9.3/dotNet/index.htm#wfs_service.htm

It suggests "... append '?request=getCapabilities' or 'request=getCapabilities&version=1.1.0' to the WFS URL ..."

I've heard a couple of times that ESRI's services aren't 100% compliant, and case-sensitiving key names may be what's the matter. Try the above camel-case, and include the VERSION parameter.

But maybe the service just doesn't publish a capabilities document ??
