Hi All,

I have a Grid image file in .flt format. When I open it in MI (version
9) it displays correctly and using the Info tool I can view the values
behind each of the grid cells.

Is there some way using MI or otherwise that I can export or convert
the grid to a Mapinfo table so that I can use the grid cell values?

I thought I might be able to use Vertical Mapper to do this however it
doesnt recognise it as a proper grid file.

Thanks,
Darren

I am not sure, but Surfer 8 may help. Here is a link

If MapInfo can open the .flt grid, then it should be able to use Grid
Tools to convert to .mig.

Add Grid Tools through the Tool Manager, then select Tools --> Grid
Tools --> Create MapInfo Grid from Other Grid File

And you can then use the MIG Toolbox to convert the .mig to XYZ,
download it here: http://www.hsgridder.com/downloads.html

Do you use this Surfer8 program ?
If so, is it a good and useful product ? Easy to use and can provide
maps which can then be printed at large sizes e.g. A0 or A1 etc. ?

Bill:

No - I don't use Surfer8 so I cannot comment. I used to use Surfer6 for
thematic contour mapping in conjunction with a 3rd party program Surflink
http://www.ssg-int.com/surflink_overview/surflink_overview.html which
automatically linked Mapinfo tab files to Surfer6, did the necessary grid
conversions and mapping, then converted back to Mapinfo for display. I just
haven't updated the two programs to work with today's computer chip
architecture and MapInfo 9. Suggest you contact Golden Software about
Surfer8. They had an excellent support team, and probably still do.

Thanks for the reply. I will look at the product and contact the company
as you suggest.
Cheers, mate.
