Hi
What format are your imagery files?
MapInfo doesn't seem to favour jpg files but better with tif files.
Are your files on a read-only server?
As MapInfo will try and create some extra index files and if it can't create them - it grinds to a crawl.

Alternatively convert or merge them into MRR files - unlimited file sizes and fantastic performance.
