I have a task where I want to make lots along a road with a set
frontage.
I have been using the parrallel tool, however the line curves and
terefore i need to manually move the lot boundaries around corners.

I was thinking of using the create perpendicular map cad tool to make
lot boundaries and if I have nodes added every 8 m I can have equal
sized frontages and approximatly equal sized lots (well lines to
imitate lots they dont need to be polygons)

I am checking directions mag as we speak but someone may know off the
top of their head if there is a tool around

Cheers

Ben

Worked it out

I will make a line on the cosmetic layer, split it using a directions
mag tool and then use the perpindicular line tool and snap function to
make boundaries

I have written (long time ago) a mapbasic program to do this (and
other things).
The program is hosted at Jacques Paris site and its name is Hatch.mbx.

Hope this helps

Thanks cameyo
...but this site is now dead...It's "mirrored" by the french site
Georezo
Your tool is now here: http://georezo.net/jparis/down/prog/more_hatch.htm

Hi Ben
A colleague has written a procedure for creating road segment markers
using the MapInfo Distance Marker tool. I have used the same tool to
create 20m frontages along lots for addressing purposes. See procedure
below:-

Aim
To create, set and label polyline distance markers (DMs) along road
centrelines and save DMs to existing layer “TSCRoadDistanceMarkers”

Process
1. Open appropriate road centerline layer
1.1 Copy (segmented) polylines that are to be DMd into temp layer
1.2 Combine segments of each polyline to form single polylines

2. Select tools
2.1 Run mapbasic program
2.2 Select distance marker and run and load

3. Set DM preferences
3.1 Tools > DM > preferences
3.2 Distance = 500m, symbol = blue solid circle, multiple points

4. Select DM tool from menu icons (top of screen)
4.1 Click DM tool somewhere near start of line to be DMd and tool will
measure and place symbols at the required intervals (away from the
curser point along the lengthier part of the line)
4.2 Check that DMs set in correct direction
4.3 If not, can reselect line and choose to either remove DMs or
modify intervals or measuring direction
4.4 Can use DM tool to select as many lines as necessary, one after to
other
4.5 Manually label all DMs in 500m increments (eg 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5,
etc)
4.6 Save labeled DMs (only) to layer “TSCRoadDistanceMarkers”

NOTE – Mapinfo will automatically save DMs into a new layer with a
“_Marker” extension added to the original table name
