I am in the process of plotting boundaries, in Google Earth, for the
districts in Pakistan, specially for each agency in FATA (Federally
Administered Tribal Areas). For this purpose, I need geographical
coordinates. My query on the problem is that;

Can MapInfo generate coordinates from the digital maps with respect to
some reference point(s). If yes, is there any documentation on how to
do it?

I am desperate for the requested info. Any help will be highly
appreciated.

Regards

You're not quite clear on what you're trying to accomplish here... Do
you have a digital map, meaning *vector* data, or a scanned image of a
map of FATA boundaries?
If you have a scanned image of a map, the moment you try to open it in
MapInfo (File > Open - be sure to choose the correct File Type -
raster images) the program will ask you whether you want to simply
display it or register it. Choose register and you will be allowed to
enter the "real life" coordinates of reference points on the map
(meaning they have to exist on the map) and from there on you will be
able to digitize the boundaries with their true coordinates. Of
course, you have to set the correct projection when registering the
scanned map. MapInfo Help should give you enough information to handle
that.

Once you have digitised the boundaries, or if you already have them
digitised, if you need the list of coordinates of all the nodes of the
boundaries you will have to look on the Internet for a tool that will
extract them from the vector file or make one of you own, using
MapBasic. A good place to start looking is www.directionsmag.com. I
use Encom Discover, which already has that functionality, so I don't
need that kind of tool. Another way would be to digitise the
boundaries as points and use Coordinate Extractor which is a part of
MapInfo. Go to Tools menu and you should see it. If it's not active,
use Tools > Tool Manager to activate it (consult MapInfo help again).

Hope this helps
