Is there a way to connect to use Google's Geocoding API instead of using Precisely's built in server?

I am unclear how the service URL is supposed to be formatted and the documentation on Google is not very helpful. I would like to add it under my Geocoding Servers List under Web Services Preferences.

Hi Fanny

I doubt that will work as the APIs from Precisely and Google probably are structured differently.

For this to work, you could create a “proxy” that takes input in the form MapInfo Pro creates it and transforms it into the input in the form Google would expect it.

Afterwards the proxy would take the response from Google and transform it into a form that MapInfo Pro would expect

I’m not saying that would be easy.

Alternatively, you would need to write your own client for Google Geocoding for MapInfo Pro.

Some years back I create a small add-in for MapInfo Pro that would use a web service published by Spectrum Spatial for searching.

This source code can be found on GitHub: https://github.com/PeterHorsbollMoller/mbSpectrumCustomFind

I wrote an article about this some years back too:

https://community.precisely.com/blogs/peter-horsboll-moller/2019/01/21/enterprise-li-using-a-spectrum-workflow-in-mapinfo

As you can see this is not out-of-the-box but needs some coding

Thank you, Peter. I will look into this and your posting as I decide which geocoding will work best for my needs.
