Hi

We have a layer of path segments (polyline).  There may be several segments for one path.
The path layer has the road name and the suburb name as attributes.
I would like to join these segments to form whole path, one for each side of the road.
If the path is over two suburbs it will need to be split at the suburb boundary.
Is there a way of combining the segments using a distance tolerance and attribute details in MapInfo.

Thanks Pam

Hi,

what you can do here is  you can use the combine objects using column clause, which you can find in table toolbar of mapinfo. or else you can combine all the objects and split it according to your suburban buffer polygon area.

Thank you for that suggestion.

This now gives me one polyline for each path both left and right sides of the road.

I am trying to join the segments for each path that join spatially eg one path on the left side of the road is one polyline and one path on the right side of the road is a second polyline.  Is this possible.

Thanks Pam

Hi,
If your path is parallel with you roads than you can make buffer of your path and with the help of contains query you can combine your poly lines separately. if this is not the condition than also by using intersects query you can separate your poly lines and after that you can join them separately. In other ways you can enclose your path and by using boundary select you can separate your poly lines according to your path.
