I was just wondering if anyone knows of any simple software to
download waypoints off a Garmin GPSMap 76s.

I have been all through the Garmin website and i find it staggering
that they don't have something to do this, especially considering they
sell computer cables for this model.

Unless there is some newer protocols of the newer Garmin's (USB
connectability may come to play), Garfile by Christian Singer works very
well for uploading or downloading waypoints and tracks to and from Garmin
units, and Mapinfo MIF format.

And look for Garfile. Very nice program!

There are several products available which will read a Garmin device (even
ones that operate on the serial port). Depending what you want to feed the
info into will depend on the software used. Mapsource is supplied by Gramin
at a price, this will store the info into a Garmin data structure.
OziExplorer is another. An excellent piece of software is Alan Murphy's, at
"mur...@gpsu.co.uk" GPSU. It costs about $51 US but is worth the investment.
Support is very good as well.

DNR Garmin:
http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/mis/gis/tools/arcview/extensions/DNRGarmin/DNRGarmin.html
is a tool I use. It's free and open source. It creates shape files,
but not MapInfo tab files.

Try contacting Harvey Ryan at GBM Mobile in Brisbane, Australia

www.geobasemap.com/index.htm

They have written a program that can work with a Mapinfo Dataset and
syncronise between PDA's and Mapinfo.
I am not sure if the Garmin works but git a go.
