Tables not opening (File is not a valid table error)

Hi, I’m having touble opening tables, this only occurs when trying to open them manually, through a MapBasic program it works just fine. I have uninstalled MapInfo 8 and reinstalled which didn’t change a thing, I also uninstalled 8 and installed 8.5 with still no luck.

 

Symptom 1. When I double click on a Tab file it opens MapInfo fine, when I double click on another Tab it gives the error “File is not a valid table, workspace, or application.”

Symptom 2. If I open the MapInfo application only, then double click on a Tab file it gives the same error.

 

So when MapInfo is open it is not allowing me to manually open tables. Can someone please help it’s driving me batty!!!
