Calculate lenth and width of polygons

Hello, i want to calculate the maximum length and  minimum width of some polygons. Is there any way to do this automatically? In ARCGIS it seems to be relatively easy to do so, but in mapinfo?

Hi,

 

Is it the minimum bounding rectangle (MBR) you look for or a rotated MBR?

Normally we do not associate length with polygons, but rather area, circumference, center and such.

Most of all it is the maximum inner length of a polygon.
What i have to do is calculate the maximum length of some watersheds since this is used in elongation ratio and water flow diagramms..
In ArcGis from what i am aware of this can be done with the flow length tool ,and maybe and other methods..
