Anyone an idea how to access a WMTS server in MapInfo? WMS and WFS servers are no problem, but I can't get MapInfo to understand and WMTS server!

Thanks for the help.

Hi Joep,

No-can-do, as far as I know. MapInfo Pro 10.5+ supports the basics of a TMS but only in Spherical/Web Mercator. I put a feature request in not so long ago for WMTS as that would open up other projections/coord systems such as the British National Grid. I also requested that they fix in lack of support for transparency on tile servers too (resulting in them not being viable for overlay-type content). I'd suggest putting the request in yourself since, as the expression goes, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. :-)

One work-around option is to use something like he open source MapProxy (mapproxy.org) which can read WMTS and can output a WMS.

Hi Warren,

This is what I feared. I'll push and shuff the MapInfo cart to get the grease flowing. ;-)

Your proxy is a new option to me. I haven't heared of that before. Must try it out.

Thank you very much for the quick answer.

Not entirely true that the WMTS only works in web mercator.

I've experimented with creating a tile service (actually just a bunch of generated JPEGs) in UTM 32, and it worked fine.

But then there was little help in the GUI to help create a WMTS tab, agreed, and I don't think it's improved since. I found it to be easier to generate the needed TAB and XML companion files from scratch, rather than utilize the "Create Table ... Type TILESERVER ..." command.

I'm attaching the sample TAB+XML files I used back then.
