Hi folks,

I am new to MapForge and I am trying to figure out where I can find tiles for making wilderness maps.  I purchased a tree add-on, and I see some add-ons that have roads and the Black Scroll Games village tiles (this one seems to have one or more grass tiles), but I was wondering where I can find add-ons with a variety different grass, hills, or water feature tiles.  I see lots of good content for dungeon or cave settings, but few add-ons for wilderness.  Is there a basic set of tiles I need to download?

My second question is regard to the Terrain Hex tile set by David Baumgart.  When I try to place the tiles in a hex grid they are off-center.  I fiddled with the grid settings options to make it close, but I was wondering if there is something basic I am missing.  I would assume that the hex tiles would just auto-snap into the hex grid without the need for me tuning the configuration settings.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

I'll answer the second question first.

In the Map Settings screen, after selecting a hex grid, there's a checkbox labeled "Snap to hex" that you need to enable. I think that's the step you're missing. It sounds like you've had it set to snap to a square grid, which you sometimes want, if you're making a map with tiles and tile overlays rather than hex-shaped assets.

As for wilderness mapping, here's a list of Add-Ons that can help:
Vegetation 1 and Vegetation 2 (currently only available to Patreon supporters).
Most of Gabriel Pickard's Add-Ons have a grass tile or texture that might help as a background to place vegetation on.
King's Road Country Highway from Heroic Games might provide a good basis for wilderness maps, just don't use the road tiles
Dungeon Map Tiles actually has a fair number of outdoor tiles (grass, water, etc.)
SG's Fantasy Pack has some grass textures, trees, etc.
The pack that would have been ideal as a basis for most wilderness maps hasn't actually been released yet. You can see a preview of it here. Alas, the Kickstarter campaign to fund it failed miserably. I'm hoping to self-publish it after MapForge v1.1 is released.

The latest Add-On from the MapForge Patreon campaign provides a great way to make outdoor maps.
