So, I began working with MapForge 1.0.9 and had all the free addon installed including Vegetation 1 & 2 on a Windows 10 64 bit machine running with admin privileges. Everything worked just fine. I recently updated to the MapForge 1.1.4 after it came out of beta. It will now fail while loading when it reaches Vegetation 1. It just closes without an error message. If I move Vegetation 1 and 2 to the "disabled addons" folder then it will load correctly under Mapforge 1.1.4 version with admin privileges and compatibility mode for Windows 8.

Anyone else experiencing this phenomenon?

Addendum: I just tested vegetation 2 alone by having Vegetation 1 in the disabled addons folder and veg2 cause the same bug for me and failed to load with no error message.

This sounds like the exact same issue I had.

Hmm. Had either of you worked with any v1.1.x release before?

Can you check to see if the following folders are present in MapForge's "Support Files" folder?
"Cached Keywords"
"Cached Thumbnails"
"Cached Textures"

"Vegetation 2" only differs structurally from "Vegetation 1" in that it doesn't contain any Tile Overlays, but I'm not seeing how that difference could provoke a crash. Gonna look into it today.

It didn't crash for me in v1.1.5 (unreleased), but I'll reinstall v1.1.4 and give it a try.

I tested "Vegetation 2" again, this time in v1.1.4, no crashes.

I had not worked with any v1.1.X only the v1.0.9.  in the "Support Files" folder all of the following folders are present.

Okay I did some more experimenting with this and I think the crash is not actually due to Vegetation 1 or 2, but rather some system resource being maxed out on startup causing the program to crash. I have a LOT of addons in my "addon folder" and only a few in the "disabled folder." Because the crash happened when loading Vegetation 1 I thought that particular addon was the culprit, but I think it is just a product of adding them in by alphabetical order and it was maxing out some resource when it got to Vegetation. I believe this is what's going on because I took out some other addons and placed them in the "disabled folder" and place Vegetation 1 and 2 back in the "addon folder" and it was able to start up just fine.

Is there a limit to the number of addons or the total size of addons (in Megabytes) that can be loaded into MapForge at any one time? A cap would explain what I am seeing with the crashes.

How many did you have enabled at once? Up to 15 should be safe. I’ve heard of problems starting at 18, but the exact upper limit may vary for each user/PC. Let me know how many you can get going at once. Item-heavy Add-Ons might consume more RAM than tile-heavy ones.

I have it currently running with 23 Add-Ons loaded. I agree that item heavy Add-Ons will consumer more RAM, so I am not sure that the crash is caused by a specific number of Add-Ons loaded, but rather is a product of something related to the amount of RAM eaten up by the Add-Ons. SO, for instance, 19 Add-Ons of a lower RAM requirement might work, but a 16 count of high item  Add-Ons will max out more RAM and cause a crash.

Here is my system info as a gauge:

Here is the list of Add-Ons I can get it to run with and their corresponding KBs of data:

Yeah I can't have more than say 17 add ons running at one time and my system is much more powerful than yours. I am running 32gbs of ram on an i7 4930k currently OC'd @ 4.2ghz.

Which brings me to let @Heruca know that I am still experiencing this issue.

MapForge is only a 32-bit program, so even with the patched .exe we worked on a while ago, it can't address more than 3 gigs of RAM.  Sadly your 32 isn't really doing anything more for it than his 6.

So then how come he can run up to 24 add ons but I can only run up to 17?

Yes, I have all those named folders present in the support folder.

Sorry, I don't know, I'm just a user.  It has been stated though that different add-ons have different RAM usage, so maybe the ones you have enabled are just hitting the cap quicker.

That's correct, David. Having a lot of Tile-only Add-Ons enabled wouldn't count much against your RAM usage, since Tile thumbnails come embedded in each Add-On. Items differ in that their thumbnails are dynamically generated at launch, and reside only in RAM. So Add-Ons with many Items (e.g. "Instant Dungeon Dressing", "Sci-Fi Props & Gadgets", "SG's Fantasy Pack", etc.) factor in more heavily on RAM usage.

If it was RAM usage then I might understand, but I can pretty much assure that is not the case. I have a couple of things that monitor my CPU and RAM usage, and my RAM usage doesn't really go up but by maybe 1% when I am loading Mapforge and all the add ons.

I am also crashing on Vegetation 1 and 2 unless it is the only addon I have available.

Alex, that’s almost certainly because you have too many Add-Ons enabled. See the last part of this Kickstarter Update.
