Hi Mathias,

Can you help me troubleshoot this error? I have a matrix of approx. 2200 individuals (SSD) x 1900 markers. Is MapDisto not able to handle matrix of this size?

My steps:
- paste data as value
- click 'Read Data' function -- this works fine without any problems
- click 'Find linkage groups'
- 'use all loci'
- LOD 5.0
- filter missing data (my data already is filtered for missing data so I select No)
- then in the next pop-up window, error 6 appears.

I am using 'MapDisto 2.0.b105.XL2013.Win.xlsb' on Excel 2016 on a 64-bit Windows 10 machine. I'd appreciate your help.

Hi berge2015,

This should work in the 64bit version of Excel. You have 64bit Windows, but is your Excel 64bit too?
Also, if you have other apps open at the same time eating lots of RAM, this can cause overflow (which is error 6).

I suggest the following:

- restart your PC (or at least log out from session then log in)

- open only MapDisto and try again

If this still doesn't work, try the MapDisto external plugin (available in the Data window of MapDisto). It's much faster that built-in VBA code, is 64bit and doesn't have the 4 Gbyte limitation of Microsoft VBA, so it should work! All you need is to install the Java 8 JDK from Oracle on your machine. (Java SE Development Kit 8 - Downloads - Oracle)

Let me know if this works. If after trying everything you still have issues, I can have a look at your data.
Best,
Mathias

Hi Mathias,

My Excel is only 32-bit so maybe that is one of the main problems. I did try restarting as you suggested but that did not work.

I could try the external plugin but could not find it in the version I am working with. I've attached with this reply all the buttons I see within MapDisto. Maybe I am not looking at the right place?

Thank you for your help!

You don`t need to install the plugin. It's automatically downloaded by MapDisto and placed in the "mapdisto_workspace" folder in your "My Documents" folder.

All you have to do is to use the commands in the "Data" sheet. In the "MapDisto Addons" section, "Linkage groups" sub-section, click on 'Export data to Addons", then "Find linkage groups". Use the appropriate check boxes.

What this useful?

Hi Mathias,

Thank you for the detailed guide, yet I am sorry to inform that I keep getting the same error. I deleted everything old, and downloaded a fresh copy of MapDisto. As you said, it did place a 'MapDisto_workspace' folder in 'My Documents' inside which were the plugins. Then I made a 'MapDisto' folder in 'My Documents' and placed the MapDisto excel file inside this folder. After that, I imported the data, scanned it, and successfully exported it to addons as you suggested. However, after that, I ran into the error again when trying to make a linkage map.

If you have some time, I'd appreciate it if you could quickly look at my data (download link) and see if it's the nature of my data that is causing this problem. My P1 is 0, P2 is 2, and missing -1; no heterozygotes. Thanks!

OK I downloaded your data, now please remove the link as you don't want to have them publicly available!

So i've had a look at your data. I've converted them to A, B, and "-" (mapmaker-like codes), because the Addons don't like numbers. And "0" shouldn't be used as a code anyway, as specified in the Tutorial. It now works on my machine, can you try on yours?
Best

Mathias,

At this point I am pretty embarrassed to say it still does not work. I changed 0 to A, 2 to B, -1 to -, pasted the data as values, then export to addon, then find linkage groups which brings me to same problem. I am beginning to think if there is some compatibility issues with the MapDisto excel file and my PC.

It may be Java. Which java version do you have?

Do you run Find LGs from the Data window? Or from the Menu window? It has to be from the Data window

Yes, made some progress now! But more problem (of course). It says: Linkage groups search completed in 0.14 seconds. Check the 'Mapdisto_results' folder.

But my 'Mapdisto_results' folder is blank, no output at all. It appears to be taking in the data as it prints 'Now computing X pairwise LODs and RFs' on the screen but something still not right. Sorry to keep bugging you, but I am really thankful for your help!

Did you check how the exported data look like? Can you send them to me by private email?

Hi, the file you sent me is different from the first one (marker names are not the same). Can you check?

Yes, they are different (I think I mentioned this in the email, but sorry if I forgot to do so) because I did some additional filtering so I ended up with a different file. But both files were generated the same way, and both give same errors.
