Hi,
since today, whenever I save a feature (either creating a new one or
editing an existing feature) the edit is saved and the message e.g.
"road created" appears on top of the map, but the red "loading..."
text remains and the page is no longer accessible and should be
refreshed.
The problem exists in Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and IE.
Thanks,
Ali

test this methods
1-Disable Proxy if you have.
2-You create a user on you computer and test.
3-Reinstall your network driver and test.

Thank you, but as I told another user (with another google account of

No, I didn't.
GMM is working with another ID, so I don't think this is necessary.

Again, I am facing this problem. This time, I performed a controlled
experiment using "incognito window" in Chrome :

1. I logged in mapmaker using user1, did some edits in AREA*.
2. Then I opened a "incognito window" and logged in the mapmaker using
myID. After I saved my first edit in the same AREA*, the mapmaker
screen froze in the "loading" state.
3. I refreshed the mapmaker n the "incognito window" (using myID) then
tried to edit another feature, again the page froze!
4. I came back to the first window (logged in using user1), edited a
feature in AREA*. everything was fine!

Can anyone kindly explain this strange behavior!?
What is Google doing with my ID!? I feel there are some experiments
going on my Google ID! ;)

Thanks,
Ali

Dear Ali

I tested as you and I didn't see maps on pages in google Chrome
I tested same feature on IE8 INPrivate mode and it works fine.
This is may cause of some security features of Google Chrome incognito mode.
You may uninstall and install again Chrome if problem persist on normal working on Chrome too
Did you test SeaMonky browser too

Thank you Qobad.

I conducted the following experiment too:

This time I logged into the Mapmaker with myID (in in Normal
Chromewindow not "incognito window"). the problem was still there!
I opened an "incognito window", logged into the Mapmaker with user1,
everything worked fine!

I also conducted this experiment on firefox. The results was the same,
user1 works fine in mapmaker but myID has the same problem!

So, sorry to tell, your theory was rejected.
Any other idea?

Thanks,
Ali

because they cant work fast as you on mapmaker pages.

Hi Ali,
We are reading this thread :-) However, ID specific trouble should not be happening on Map Maker. We'll get this double-checked and get back to you.

Please do post back if you think any clues from your side could help debug this. Any particular feature type that makes this happen, etc.

Thanks,

P.S: Has anyone else faced ID specific problems such as this ?

Thank you.
This problem is so strange that I am much more curious to find out its
cause than being frustrated.
Could you suggest any other experiment to find out whether it is ID-
specific problem or not?
I have already mentioned that I conducted an experiment on a computer
with two chrome session and two IDs, mine had problem and the other ID
was fine, I just redo that experiment and the result was the same.
Also, the previous time I had this problem, I tested from another
computer connected to another network, the problem was there! so it
should not have anything to do with network, computer, or browser. Any
other test?

Thanks,

Hi, I don't really know if this one is a ID-specific problem, but whenever I try to create a feature like for example a school, it show item created, but I can't save. I keep hitting save button, but it seems that that's not working. I am using Google chrome for (nearly) all my edits whenever possible.
p.s. don't have issues creating roads tough.

I think that is different from my problem. For me, every thing is
normal until I hit the save button (on the edit left panel) the the
page goes under the loading state (inactive-with a loading label on
the top left corner) finally the message for successful save e.g.
"road created" is shown BUT the page remains in loading state.
what about you CNR?

Hi Ali,
I see that you are able to mark features using your ID. Is this
problem persistent, periodic or is it occurring randomly ? Is this the
profile that you are facing problems with:

I did save a few features since the problem is back, but with a
special technique!
I reload the page after each save! can you imagine that how fun it
would be! ;)

Thanks for following,

Ohh :( That is indeed a tiresome workaround. Two questions:
- On reloading the page, does the feature get saved automatically ?
- Are you using the browser refresh (F5) or hitting "Link to this page" to reload ?

@ CNR & Jairo - Are you guys using the same workaround or is it different for you ?

Thanks,

1- until yesterday, after I hit the save button, the feature saved
and the proper message was displayed on the screen e.g. "road created"
while the screen was locked in "loading" state.
2- the page is "locked" when it is in loading state, I have to hit the
refresh.

Can you please let us know the approximate frequency of recurrence of the drafting issue ?
For example, for every 5th feature you add or after every 5 minutes of editing, you needed to refresh, etc.

Two more questions:
Was the drafting issue happening the last time you faced this on April 11 ?
What happens when you leave the screen in the 'loading' state ? Do you get any time out or page stale error message ?

@Others - Please do weigh in with your thoughts and observations :-)

The drafting issue just happened today so that is not my main concern
at all. (and it's very difficult to find it out now, since I have to
refresh after each edit)

I haven't notice a drafting "issue" until today. however, I have seen
some edits appear in my "drafts" but that was very rare.

No, not time out, no page stale error, would it be helpful if I email
you a video capture?

Another problem I am facing with, is:

HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden
... but your computer or network may be sending automated queries. To
protect our users, we can't process your request right now.

for these kind of requests:
GET /mt/n=404&v=gwm.1306&x=655&y=400&z=10 HTTP/1.1
Host: gt3.google.com

which results in displaying no map tiles, and in few cases the
mapmaker page!
I think reason for this error is "refreshing the page after every
edit"; the Google detects many unusual request from my computer and
consider it as an automated queries, am I right?

I just found a technical clue, which might help you trace the problem:
(would you please pass it to the technical team or even connect me to
them?)

I have traced the problem in Firefox with FireBug1.5.3 and here is the
results:
After I press "save" button to save a feature, FireBug reports this
error:
"h is undefined" in maps2.geowiki.js (line 2932)

Then I noticed that IE was generating the same error (for another ID
which was "infected" with this problem! it seems this is
contagious;) ):

Hi Ali, can you try a shift+reload once to clear the browser cache?
(The errors you have listed match the old javascript).

Thanks!

Currently the 4467lines maps2.geowiki.js is used in my browser. (I
have already cleared the browser cache)
The request for

GET /mapmaker/intl/en_ALL/mapfiles/maps2.geowiki.js HTTP/1.1

has the following response: (modified on 28 Apr 2010, is that the
latest version?)

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Content-Type: text/javascript
Last-Modified: Wed, 28 Apr 2010 05:16:33 GMT
Date: Mon, 03 May 2010 15:19:23 GMT

Since today, the error is in line 3038 :
h is undefined http://www.google.com/mapmaker/intl/en_ALL/mapfiles/maps2.geowiki.js
Line 3038

Can I run some test to help you find this problem?
Thanks,
Ali

Hi CNR,

Do you still have this problem? If yes, would you please visit
mapmaker in IE so that you can see whether IE reports a bug in
Javascript code for you too? (when the page freezes in loading state,
look at the bottom left of the IE window, if you see a yellow mark,
click on it and report the error here)

Thanks,
Ali

I have seen this problem yesterday also.
As suggested by I tried shift+F5. The screen goes back to the original status and when looked at 'My Changes' , the edit was seen saved as a 'Draft'.
I had to edit it again and save.
This has seen many times yesterday and I get frustrated.
Will GMM do something to rectify the problem.

CNR

So you are saying that shift+F5 did not solve your problem completely?

Can I perform any test to help you find out the causes of this
problem!?
Thank you,
Ali

I did another test:
1. I created a new Google account: http://www.google.com/mapmaker?gw=66&uid=112283526526187794563
2. I successfully mapped more than 20 roads in a row.
3. I signed out and sign back again with myID.
4. I tried to create a road in the same area I was mapping with the
new created ID, the page froze on "loading" state after saving the
road.
5. I opened another tab for mapmaker, created another road, again the
page froze!

For your information, the two other IDs that I have been testing with
when I first had this problem with myID, have been affected by this
problem! "contagious bug"! interesting, isn't it?

Thanks for your help,
Ali

I think , your connection works fine when you use another ID , thats
your chance :D

these days really my Internet is down ( I have Parsonline 512 )
and , I can say I have same problem with every 2 or 3 edits some
days .

some of friends could play games online before , but now .... its
impossible to play for them .for high ping error .

so if you are here in iran , maybe your ISP blocked some features that
made this , or blocked or slowed some data source . ( for Example I
can download from many sources in high speed , but in megaupload my
down dolad speed was 4kb today :D , or now days I cant even post on
Google Groups , and I must wait many time for it to be send ).

I dont mean your ISP is slow , they may blocked ( or slowed ) , some
sources that is used in GMM , for example GMM use google maps data ,
google analytic , and many other .

and now , one f these parts maybe slowed .

but t all , this is my Idea , with Regards , Mohammad Reza

May I know the state of this problem?
1- Is it officially accepted as a bug?
2- If not what else can I do to either resolve the problem or have it
accepted as a bug?

Thank you,
Ali

Hi,
Do you think having access to an account with this problem could help
the team solve it faster? (I reported this error on Apr 10!)
If yes, please let me know to share my account with you.

Thank you,

Update:
1. Today May 20, myID was working fine for a couple of hours.
2. More interestingly, a newID that I created 10 days ago is now
infected with this problem!
I could perform almost 700 edits with this newID before this problem
arose.

Any update from MapMaker team?

Thank you,
Ali
