Hi all,

As Spring is slowly rolling in to the area, we should start to think about doing another mapping party. Does anyone have any ideas for an area to map?

Also, do you have any areas you want to highlight? I've noticed that stucki1 has done a whole bunch of work in between the cities. I've done a bunch of work down here in Chanhassen since my office moved.

Finally, I want to remind everyone that if you know of any students interested in OSM or mapping-related projects we have been accepted as part of the Google Summer of Code. Google will pay students to do open source coding for the Summer! It's a pretty good gig. Let me know if there's someone interested. I'll be on the UMN campus on March 30th sitting at a booth in their GIS career day talking about OSM so perhaps I'll get some more nibbles of interest there.

Thanks!
Ian

A few weeks ago I was looking for a Garmin version of the OSM, and I
found the error version from CloudNine. Perhaps we could schedule an
event to work on the error version to make the existing map more
usable. Imagine our state map with no errors! Just an idea, but is
this doable for an event? Could this be a meeting that we could do
without being outside?

That's a pretty good idea... finding errors in the area and fixing them would be good. I think the error version of the map only shows unnamed roads which doesn't happen too often in the states. I wonder if there's a different set of errors we could try to solve...

Perhaps we could try finding an addressing or roads dataset from a local government and try to make sure that all the data from that dataset is present in OSM? Matt, do you know of anyone at MetCouncil that could donate an addressing dataset?

You could try the city of Roseville and/or City of Saint Paul. The Met Council itself doesn't maintain address data. We use parcels from the counties and a licensed street centerline dataset.
