Hi Mikel,
Hope this email finds you well.I am very well just working towards making things happen.
As I promised I have the details of the printers and the cyber cafe..
EPSON printers:Category one: Basic printing, copying and scanning
TYPE COST
Tx210 KES 9 500
TX 550 KES 17 825
Category two: High Quality printing, scanning and copying. They can also print CDs and DVDs
TYPE COST
RX 610 KES 19 995
TX700W KES 23 995 (This is WiFi enabled and can work with 10 computers at a go!)
We could easily secure any this printers in downtown through the help of my friend Tonny who also does printing services.
Cyber CafeAs earlier mentioned we had secured a cyber cafe in Kenyatta market, however,on more research, the internet is not as reliable as we were told.Again, the security of the area has been wanting in the recent past. Please note the key changes:
We will have our Cyber Cafe at Hurlingham,Arwings Kodhek Rd,NYAKU House. The cyber is part of Kent Pharmaceuticals Ltd.I met Dr.Nyaga, the proprietor who has offered us the opportunity. The place is very secure and has reliable power and internet. They use Microsoft XP for their OS.I totally fell in love with the place! They would offer us up to 10 computers which also have Skype! dr.Nyaga agreed we could install the mapping Software.he asked me for the specifics of the size of the software and other specifics that may help him plan in avance.
Dr.Nyaga, after much negotiations, has agred we could use our printer from the premises, though he'll have to know the number of paers we are likely to print in a day.Could you help me with this info please? With this I will be able to get the final costing of hiring and using the facilities.we will be required to pay for this upfront.
You could reach Dr.Nyaga on
ny...@kent.co.keMediaI am so delighted at our progress. My friend Terry is helping me organize how you could have an interview at KTN,one of Kenya's leading TV stations. We talked to Michael Oyier,an influential anchor at the station and he would be willing to meet with you.Could you send me your profile as well as a brief info on your organization.I'll need to ask Megan for a brief of Jump Start.Once we have this, you should be ready to meet Michael the week of 26th of Oct.

Catering
This should be one of the most critical aspects of the mapping! We don't want our mappers and volunteers get sick over food! That is why I have taken a personal effort to look out for affordable catering services, from people who I know value quality and won't let us down.Dove's Touch Company owned by Tonny and Terry Gobanga (my friends and co-workers at the Nairobi Mission Church)
We could have amazing meals/lunches at a cost of KES 250 per person, per day, for the next 3 weeks, working with 6 days with an average of 25 people,or otherwise.I am still waiting for response in regards to this aspect.
Here is a sample menu of what we have worked on:
Day 1
Chicken,Rice,Veges(french beans and carrots)
Day 2
Fish Fillet, sliced fried potatoes,Veges (Coleslaw)
Day 3
Beef Stew,mashed potatoes,veges (carrots raisins)
Day 4
sausage stew,spaghetti,buttered spinach
Day 5
minced meat,spaghetti, matoke,pan-fried veges
Day 6
Pilau,potato salad,kachumbari
I think we should have some chapati somewhere?! i just love them!
Each meal will have a fruit go with it.
Personally,I don't know a place in Kenya where you could get this kind of food for just about $3.
i don't want to imagine our volunteers and mappers eating in Kibera! Oh no!
We also ned to budget for water, about 50 litres of mineral water per week should be good! Grange Park Water goes for KES 1200 for 50 litres.that should work for us.
Tonny and Terry could be reached on:
doves...@gmail.com or t.go...@gmail.com
That was quite a chunk! Please feel free to ask me any questions.
More from me soon!
regards
