Attention Parents - The PTSA is still looking for a few people to join next year’s board. The following positions are needed for the 2012-2013 school year.  Awards, Partners for Excellence, Project Graduation (Co-Chair needed), and Volunteer Coordinator. duPont Manual Sports Physicals - On Friday, May 11th, Manual High School will be conducting sports physicals for 2012 / 2013.  Physicals will take place in the Manual Cafeteria, after school beginning at 2:45 - 5 PM (Football will have separate physicals on May 23). The cost is $15 (make checks to Manual High School).   No student will be given a physical unless their entire physical and addendum is filled out completely - in advance. All physicals and addendum forms will be kept on file at Manual. No forms will be handed back to students. The annual duPont Manual High School Senior Awards Night - Tuesday Evening, May 15th at 6:30 PM in the Manual High School Auditorium.  We will be recognizing outstanding members of the Class of 2012 for their accomplishments.   There will be a musical presentation from one of the YPAS Chamber Ensembles that begins playing at 6:00 pm if you would like to come early and enjoy the music.
 
 
 
World Affairs Council of Kentucky & S. Indiana looking for Host Families for High School Exchange for Eurasian Students - These students are not only excited to learn about the United States and experience another culture, but they are emerging leaders from key countries including vital new democracies and developing nations of Eurasia.  The students are selected by the Embassy in their native country based on their merit, personality, character, motivation, ideas, interest in civic activism and making a change to their communities. THE  5th ANNUAL SLYDER CUP GOLF SCRAMBLE -  will again benefit the duPont Manual Boys’ Golf Team & The First Tee of Louisville. YPAS Senior Night (May 23rd in the Main Stage Auditorium at YPAS) - On this night we will recognize the collective accomplishments of the YPAS Senior Class of 2012. The program begins at 6:30 PM and will be very different from the Manual Senior Awards Night.  You will receive your YPAS Diplomas, a copy of the YPAS Class of 2012 Group Photo, along with other YPAS departmental awards.  There will be refreshments provided by the Producers and you will see a DVD Presentation entitled, "Remembering the Class of 2012." 
 
 
New ACT Test Summer Intensive Prep - Visit http://www.theactbootcamp.com/ to participate in the local ACT prep.   From state standards to college admissions and scholarship money, the ACT is becoming the most important standardized test.  To stay up with the ACT's ever-growing importance, Torch Prep  will be offering a DISCOUNT for the Summer Intensive Boot Camp June 4-8.  The course is 32 hours over five days.

Volunteer  Opportunities:
 
Volunteers are needed for AP Testing - AP Testing is coming up quickly and Manual students will be taking close to 2000 exams. As you can imagine, it takes a lot of coordination and effort to administer this number of exams so PARENT VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED!  If you can assist any morning from 7:15-11:30 or any afternoon from 11:30-3:30 during May 7 through May 18 it would be appreciated. There will be a certified proctor in each testing session. As a volunteer under direction of the proctor, you will be responsible for checking IDs, passing out and collecting exams, and escorting students to the restroom. Counselors' Corner:  Mr. Robinson is the counselor in charge of scholarship announcements and would like our students and parents to be aware of the following scholarships and other educational opportunities. Additional information can be found in the Guidance Center.

MACALESTER COLLEGE FALL SAMPLER EXTENDED PROGRAMS - September 27-30, 2012.  For more than 18 years Macalester College in St. Paul Minnesota has been providing funding to help academically talented students of color participate in their Fall Sampler Extended Programs.  The Fall Samplers provide prospective students with the opportunity to tour the campus, attend classes, stay in a residence hall, eat in the dining hall and interact with current students.  We may nominate up to THREE (3) African-American, Native-American, Latino, or Asian American students who are currently high school juniors and who would be well-suited to Macalester's academically challenging liberal arts program.  To qualify for the travel stipend, students must be US Citizens or Permanent Residents and also unable to visit Macalester for financial reasons.  If you would like to be nominated for this opportunity, contact Mr. Robinson in the YPAS Counseling Office for the application forms and nomination information.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING CLASSES - Aquatic Management Corporation and the American Red Cross.  May Weekend Classes ($215) on Saturdays and Sundays - May 6, 12, 13, 19, 20.  10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  Test Out on May 23rd, 6:00 PM until you are finished. You must be at least 15 years old, swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.  Swim goggles may be used.  Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs while keeping hands under the armpits, and complete timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds.  For more information call Charly at 502-774-0519.  To register for class or for summer employment applications contact http://aquaticmc.com

Y-PAS Productions for the month of May  - The dance dept is putting a production on for younger age students coming up on May 7th, Harold and the Purple Crayon.   Additionally, throughout the month, YPAS will have concerts (events) from Orchestra, Band, Jazz, Tech Olympics and Senior Performances throughout the month. Fund Your Seat Campaign - The Producers, the parent organization of YPAS, are conducting a fundraiser titled, “Fund Your Seat.”  This fundraiser is designed to raise enough money to replace all of the audience seats (dated late 70’s) in the Main Stage Theatre. “Fund Your Seat” provides you the ability to sponsor a seat in the Main Stage Theatre.  In doing so, you will get an engraved nameplate attached to the seat you sponsor with your name or a brief tribute.  There are two different prices for the seats depending on the seat you choose ($175 and $225).  For an order form please visit www.ypas.producers.org.  Please take time to visit the PHOTO SESSION on the Website to see creative pictures of faculty, staff, and students promoting the “Fund Your Seat” fundraiser.
