Dear friends,
It is time to get organised for our next trip, to the paradise closer to us, Palawan. Our friend Long Jun has made a trip to the island last year and it is time that we checked on his offspring over there too.
Please use the following link to indicate your preferences in terms of resorts and preferred time slots. Please ask around for some tips for where and when to go as I have not done enough research on this. But the following file might be useful.

I am thinking of going there for four nights and five days, including a weekend in December, just before Christmas. So, need to take two to three days off. We will get some quotations once we have a rough idea about how many, preferred resorts, and time slots.

I was asked to propose a date for this year's trip to Chiang Mai - this year will be easy as there is only one destination to choose from. Next year we will go back to having a few alternatives.
I am thinking about visiting there during the famous Loy Krathong Festival. This year is will be 11-13 Nov. As these are week days, we can either combine it with the weekend before or after - maybe either8-12 Nov or 12-16 Nov. November is much drier compared with October though we can consider October too.
Once we have a collective vote on date, Mr Li Hui has kindly volunteered to be the 'Shi-er-ma' again to get the quotes for different hotels lined up. And we will have another vote online.
I am using the old email from the last trip for the recipients. But obviously Ada will drop out this year (we will think of you!) and you might want to add other people. Please let me know and I will add them when I create an online voting page later.

Loy Krathong: Festival of Lights on the Water and Parade
3 days of the Full-moon day of the twelve lunar month (November)
Chiang Mai was founded near the banks of the Mai Ping river. On the 3 nights of the Loy Krathong festival, 10,000's of people gather at the riverside to pay homage to the goddess of the waters by releasing handmade floats (Krathongs) of banana leaf, flowers, incense, candles and offerings.
One bank of the river is lined with restaurants that make a great viewing area of the release of the 20,000 Krathongs and fireworks. Book reservations early as places fill up in advance. You may also talk a stroll through the inner city to see temples and homes lit with earthen lamps, candles and x-mas lights.
The festivities, also called Yi Peng, may have evolved from Brahmanic rites to honor the dead as well as local rites to bring an end to the monsoon rains. Activities include a nightly parade made up of back-lit floats (like the one shown on the right), bands and beautiful maidens in traditional dress.
Join kids and gown-up kids at Thae Pae gate to release flame fed hot-air balloon-like latterns into the sky. This is one of our favorite Chiang Mai activities. When you look out across the sky and see all the floating latterns, you'll be sure we're being visited by friends from the stars.
