Sara Wolf: Thank you so much! In short, Heavenbreaker is a revenge story about a girl on a space station riding a giant robot in a jousting competition to avenge the murder of her mother by nobles. Think Game of Thrones meets Pacific Rim.

BD: You are no stranger to writing for fantasy, having worked on series like Send Me Their Souls, yet this story truly pushes the genre forward. How would you describe your creative process in bringing this expansive story and its characters to life on the page?

Prepare for even more hype surrounding RPG Tower Of Fantasy. The team behind this anime inspired shared world adventure just invited potential players of this upcoming title to meet the population of this diverse world. A brand new character trailer, which you can watch above, gives us a glimpse of the heroes that walk this realm, taking on enemies and exploring a vast sci-fi setting in a world unlike our own. Eight different characters are featured in the preview, including:

GameSpace aims to be a one-stop shop for all your gaming news, reviews, videos, streams, opinions, and forums. I agree about the status quo not becoming diverse. I am trying to get a fantasy story of mine published. It takes places in a fantastical African setting. It is 100% original. I am being told that it is not what they are looking for right now. Meanwhile, I watch them publish yet another story with a white female who falls in love with a otherworldly male.

PS.The world of epic fantasy is even narrower than Medieval Europe. It is Medieval Britain, exactly; only with dragons and magic. The pretentiousness of the genre is bothersome. But, people keep eating it up, and others like me, a black female unapologetically writing about black characters in fantastical Africa, just watch on.

@Mell: Part of the problem (though certainly not all of it) is that the world of epic fantasy is NOT exactly Medieval Britain. Medieval Britain had multiple cultures and languages, monarchs whose hold on power was tenuous and who shored up support by playing groups off each other, a social hierarchy both less rigid and more brutally enforced than epic fantasy might lead one to suspect, and a ruling class that was painfully aware of their status as a relative backwater and desperate to imitate cultures they perceived as more advanced.

Just for shits and giggles, I recently picked up a fantasy novel that I loved in middle school, and was so appalled by it that I reflexively through it against the wall after reading only a few pages. How could I have just blindly accepted, and even celebrated, a work that was so clearly NOT reflective of the world I was living in (and also was basically a fascist romp)?

America may be something like a melting pot, but the history of the Germanic western Europeans who founded it was not. As much as people like to invoke the Moorish invasion, it is still entirely possible for someone to write a faux-medieval story set somewhere with no blacks, Arabs, or Chinese and still be accurate.

*You have no rationalization for calling me ignorant at all, other than the hurt feelings incited within every culturally European non-white once s/he realizes how thoroughly white the mainstream culture of America is.

Tower of Fantasy already has an amazing cast of characters straight off the bat with the launch of the game in Western regions. Tower of Fantasy has actually already been out for quite a while in China, meaning they have all the rostered characters at the moment. Meanwhile, the Western audience is patiently waiting for the new SSRs to arrive in the game with the upcoming patches.

Lin is only available in China at the moment, making her extremely sought after by those who love her character design and move set. Due to China already having her, there are videos online that showcase her move set and weapon. One of the main reasons why she's popular amongst fans of the game is because she wields a large fan as a weapon called the Shadow Weaver. It's a pretty unique weapon within the game as a whole and adds a whole new element to combat in Tower of Fantasy.

She's better suited as a DPS role in a team and has the element of Aberration. Shadow Weaver's weapon mastery produces nightblooms that will appear around the enemy, exploding within 3 seconds and causing a powerful area of effect (AOE) damage. When her weapon is fully charged, her next attack leaves a mark on the enemy that explodes after 5 seconds have passed. At 1 star, Lin's normal attacks deal AOE damage to surrounding enemies.

Also currently only available in China, Ruby is an upcoming flame DPS character. Her weapon is named Sparky, and it's pretty cute. When Ruby's weapon is fully charged, it will set the enemy on fire for a total of 8 seconds after the following attack, which then creates damage over time (DOT) every second.

If a player chooses to have two flame users on their current team, they will gain Flame Resonance which increases the flame attack percentage by 20% and shields the player's character by 40% from oncoming flame attacks. If fans of the game manage to get Ruby to 1 star, her normal attack damage percentage will rise to 182% with skill cool downs reducing to 24 seconds before the next use.

While Cobalt-B is introduced early in the game within the main story questline, she isn't currently available in Western regions. She wields the Blazing Revolver as well as the flame element and is best suited as a DPS.

Cobalt-B's fully charged weapon sets the enemy on fire for a total of 8 seconds with the next attack, which then causes DOT every second. At 1 star, 2% of the enemy's max health points (HP) will become bonus damage, creating an attack boost of us to 200%.

Another upcoming SSR is Claudia, the katana-wielding DPS who deals damage with the physical element. Her weapon is named the Guren Blade and deals Grievous damage when it is fully charged, causing a 137% buff to the current normal attack damage of the weapon. At 1 star, Claudia's weapon creates a stacked damage boost after a skill hits an enemy.

This stack can go up to three and provides a damage boost of 8% for 25 seconds. Like the other characters in Tower of Fantasy, her weapon can be used on the ground and in the air. Another one of her moves is Cyclone, a knockback attack that holds the enemy airborne while dealing damage to them, this can be done by holding down the attack button after performing normal attacks.

Baiyuekui is classed as a DPS character that wields the element of volt, similar to the electro element in Genshin Impact. When her weapon is fully charged, the volt element paralyzes an enemy, followed by electrifying them for 6 seconds. This not only deals damage to the enemy but also nullifies any current buffs. When using Baiyeukui's weapon in combat, the player can trigger War Intent, which increases the final damage by 15%.

This however decreases the player's HP by 1% every 5 seconds during usage. This effect is removed when the battle is finished or when the player swaps weapons mid-battle. It's important to note that the HP decrease stops after the player's HP reaches below 50%, but the damage boost continues.

Tian Lang is one of the upcoming male characters and is currently a China exclusive and uses the element of volt. His weapon is named Powerbreak, and he is most suited for the DPS role in a team. As his weapon uses the volt element, it can paralyze an enemy, followed by electrifying them once the weapon is fully charged. This also nullifies any buffs that the enemy may have, and deals powerful damage.

When pairing Tian Lang's weapon with another volt weapon, the player will gain Volt Resonance which increases the overall volt attack by 20% and provides a 40% increase to volt resistance. At 1 star, Tian Lang's charging battery provides the player with a stack of Overload, which increases the max HP by 20%, however, it raises the damage received by 12%. This can stack up to 8 times, but each stack diminishes after 6 seconds if they are not refreshed.

Lyra's weapon, Vespers, is quite unique with it being two large arms, similar to the colossus arm relic, that deal physical damage. She is best suited for the support role in a team and can deal grievous damage when the weapon is fully charged. This increases the damage percent by 137% of what the current attack damage is and makes the enemy take 20% extra damage overall.

Equipping two physical weapons created Physical Resonance which raises the physical attack percentage by 20% and increases the physical resistance by 40%. When a player gets Lyra to 1 star, the usage of weapon skills and discharge skills refreshes the Guardian duration when the Guardian is at the maximum. This deals damage according to how many Guardians are currently involved in the battle.
