Subject: UPDATED COVID-19
Chair Bushnell and Chair Brewer,
(Darren: I am CC’ing you because of your wide network of Safe Streets volunteers - please forward this information to your networks)
I will be sending you all updates as they become available regarding the city’s COVID-19 outbreak. I am in Washington DC with my colleagues and we have spoken to the highest levels of our federal delegation, including Sen. Cantwell and Sen. Murray, as well as Rep. Kilmer, Smith and Heck, in the past two days about the CDC and federal response. We are in regular communication with the Health Department as well and the Mayor is leading our efforts in Tacoma. We are coordinating now to receive regular updates on the federal response and we are asking for help, particularly on issues around our protecting our immigrant and refugee community’s safety in seeking medical attention and/or testing, funding for test kits and first responders, and other issues pertinent to Covid-19.
- Please see the most recent briefing attached regarding the city’s response
- Please refer all inquests from concerned neighbors regarding the issue to the Tacoma Pierce Co Health Dept website here. This is the single point of accessing information and answering FAQs:
https://www.tpchd.org/healthy-people/human-coronavirus
- Please take caution in considering if you will be holding a neighborhood meeting, at least in March. I know SENCO has canceled their meeting for the 16th; if STNC has not already done so, I strongly urge you to cancel your meeting this month. Most city and community meetings are being canceled as the virus issue is still evolving and the response being developed.
- Please carefully read and follow all relevant safety and personal safety precautions as outlined by the Health Department. If you have symptoms, follow all protocols listed on the Health Department page.
- Please share the info-graphics and the Health Department website to all parties within your sphere of communication, including email, web, physical copies and social media, where available.
If you have any questions about this communication, do not hesitate to inquire by emailing, texting or calling me.
All other questions about Covid should be directed here:
* Call

Chris Beale, AICP
