I have just been involved in the incorporation of another club I
belong to and it is indeed a lengthy and costly exercise to
incorporate. But the costs don't stop there. Each year the club has
to be officially audited and other mandatory administrative work has
to be done such as the annual returns. There also has to be a formal
board and an AGM. It all adds up to be a lot of work for someone.
It would be good to see exactly what insurance would be extended to
our members if we take this step and to determine if this insurance is
actually needed. Many if not all of our members could well be covered
by other forms of insurance already -- for example health insurance
for medical bills, or loss of income insurance etc.
It is my understanding that if we begin to charge membership fees we
will need to incorporate anyway for legal reasons.
