Events in Steinbach area (and one in Carman)

Here are some events by South Eastman Transition Initiative that may interest you:

• Thursday, July 26, 7:00PM. This is our July group event and we visit Stonelane Orchard just east of Steinbach. Stonelane Orchard is a CSA and market garden run by Kim Shukla and Richard Whitehead. We anticipate a tour of their garden, and then want to find a comfortable place to sit and talk about the challenges they face and how they deal with these challenges. Although Stonelane is not certified organic, Kim and Richard use chemical products very sparingly. We anticipate talking about the challenges they face in trying to go organic. Garden produce will be available for purchase.

A map is attached. Those wishing to bike there, can meet at my house (484 Hanover) at 6:30.

• Saturday, July 21, all day. Lynsey Sable is inviting all to the Marchand Garden Party. Details on the attached poster. This looks like an interesting way to spend the day, with input on edible wilds, permaculture and green manure/cover crops. 

• Monday, July 23, all day. Ecological and Organic Farming Systems Field Day at Carmen. This is the field day of the Natural Systems Agriculture program at the University of Manitoba. I highly recommend this. If you have not been there before, you will be surprised at what is possible. Details in the attached poster.
