At yesterday's potluck we made a draft book list that could be used for the bookclubbery...

Please add to the list if you want, or if someone wants to take a lead on choosing a book and getting this started please do!

Put me down for the 'one straw revolution'. And I like colins idea
about doing the
Discussions through the google groups seeing as driving to the city an
back is not
Always an option. Any other thoughts?

Hello All!

Shall we vote for a book?

If so I'll put in a vote for pattern language.

I am up for any book, and we can arrange the "meetings" through online meeting software I have access to through work. We'd have to find a time that would work for everyone, but we can meet on line, hear each other though we don't get to see our beautiful faces. I can post a photo though :)

I'd like to participate in the book club, depending on time & technological capacity (I only have internet at work - the meeting software may be blocked for me, but we'll see!). I'd be most available after 4:30 on weekdays that don't start with "Wednes-".
Since I suggested A Pattern Language, I should point out a pro/con:
If it's not available at the U of M bookstore, it may be difficult to come by and may need to be picked up online - which takes time.  I'm certain that each of you will want a copy of it eventually, so that may be okay.
On the good side, it's an easy read - with entries more like a coffee-table book than a russian novel.
It's a foundational text - it will change the way you think about design, and it is completely consistent with permaculture.

Whether or not it's the book club selection, check out this article on APL and the Transition Movement: http://transitionculture.org/2010/06/04/rethinking-transition-as-a-pattern-language-an-introduction/

Has this discussion moved off the manitoba permies list? If not,
here's my vote for A Pattern Language, a summary of what I understand
has been said so far and a doodle poll to move us forward:

Books that have been voted for more than once (assuming that the
people who suggested titles were casting a vote for their suggestion):
A Pattern Language: 3
The One Straw Revolution: 2
Maybe we could decide on this by Jan. 6th - ie. get your votes in if
you really don't want to read A Pattern Language!

Meeting place:
Misty's in Winnipeg for those who can make it in person
In an online meeting room that Jackie will set up for those who can't

Meeting time:
Here's a doodle poll to pick a time: http://www.doodle.com/n3bye383i8nd38f3

Happy new year y'all,

Erica

Jackie - can we test your online meeting program to see if I'll be able to join in from my work computer?
